HC Adjourns Hearing On Gov’s Plea

The division bench of Bombay High Court at Goa comprising of Justice S C Dharmadhikari and Justice F M Reis on Thursday adjourned to 2nd May the hearing of the petition filed by Goa Governor Dr. S S Sidhu challenging the Goa Information Commission’s order declaring his office to be a public office.

In the order dated 31st March, the State Information Commission had held that the Governor’s office was a public authority and therefore directed the Governor’s office to provide the information sought under Right to Information Act by activist Aires Rodrigues.

Aires has alleged that Dr. Sidhu is the only Governor in the entire country not complying with the Right to Information Act by claiming that he was not a “public authority”.

Incidentally, at the hearing on Thursday, the Governor was not represented by the Advocate General but by Advocate Mahesh Sonak.
