HC Admits Petitions But No Stay on Civic Polls

The Goa Bench of Bombay High Court on Monday morning admitted the two petitions challenging the reservation policy of the government for the municipal elections at Margao and Pernem, however, refused to stay the election process.
Margao residents, Laurel Abranches, Cryodon Madeira and Succoro D’Souza had filed a petition in the High Court alleging that the reservation of wards was done arbitrarily to help certain specific candidates to contest the municipal elections.
Some residents of Pernem had also moved the court challenging the women’s ward reservation.
The High Court today admitted both the petitions and posted them for hearing after the elections are over.
