HC Directs Govt. To Name Officers to Handle Sound Pollution

The Goa Bench of the Bombay High Court on Wednesday directed the Goa government to name officers to deal with complaints pertaining to sound pollution and asked it to submit details of the officers including their phone numbers by next week when the case will be taken up.

The direction came following Calangute Police Inspector Nolasco Raposo’s submission before the court that as per Section 2 of the Madhya Pradesh Prevention of Noise Pollution Act that is made applicable to Goa, an officer higher than the rank of Police Inspector has to handle complaints pertaining to noise pollution.

Nolasco Raposo was asked to be present in the Court on Wednesday following a complaint by the special committee constituted by the High Court to inspect sound pollution cases that their complaints of violations of sound pollution were not entertained by the Calangute Police Station.

Nolasco Raposo while quoting Section 2 of the Act pointed out that the police station was not the authority to receive complaints regarding noise pollution.
