The Bombay High Court at Goa has directed the government to reply by 20th June to the petition filed by Agricultural Tenants Association of Amona.
The Agricultural Association of Amona has moved the High Court seeking a ban on sand extraction from the river in their village.
The petitioners pleaded that sand extraction from the river has damaged the 6 mts wide bandh separating the river from their village.
The petitioners pleaded that due to the damage to the bandh, saline water has entered their fields making them uncultivable. The petitioners also relied upon a letter written by the PWD to the collector seeking a ban on sand extraction as it was damaging the piers of the Amona Bridge.
Depending upon the government reply, the court is expected to pronounce its judgement on the admission of this petition on 20th June.
