The Bombay High Court at Goa has disposed off the petition filed by the National Students Union of India (NSUI) seeking a direction that the police-drug dealer nexus cases be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) as the cases have already been transferred to that agency.
The division bench comprising of Justice S C Dharmadhikari and Justice F M Reis pronounced their order after CBI counsel Carlos Ferreira stated that the notification authorizing the CBI to take over the cases will be issued shortly.
Three cases involving police personnel and drug peddlers are now transferred to the CBI by Goa government and are merely awaiting a notification authorizing the CBI to probe them.
The police personnel drug dealer nexus came to light after Lucky Farmhouse, former girlfriend of Israeli drug dealer Yaniv Benaim alias Atala posted a video clip of Atala bragging about his links with the police and politicians in Goa.
Besides, in a sting operation, Police Sub Inspector Sunil Guddlar heading the Anti-Narcotic Cell of Goa Police, was caught on camera selling drugs to the sister and girlfriend of yet another Israeli drug dealer David Driham alias Dudu.
