HC orders Status Quo on SP Atmaram’s Plea

The Goa bench of the Bombay High Court has issued a ‘status quo’ in the petition filed by SP Atmaram Deshpande challenging the transfer order issued by the Union Home Ministry transferring him to Mizoram.

Atmaram Deshpande is currently caught in the crossfire between the state and Centre, with the Centre adamant to hold its ground in issue related to the IAS and IPS officers, much to the dismay of the Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar who has been opposing Centre’s dictates.

Deshpande – a Goa police service officer was promoted to the IPS last November and was allocated to the Goa segment of the Joint AGMU Cadre and then Union Home Ministry issued a transfer order reliving him as SP of the Special Branch and transferring to Mizoram. However, Deshpande had requested to Home Ministry to differ the transfer for a year as his daughter was currently in the Twelfth Standard and police service guidelines allows for officers to be given a relaxation on such grounds. But on the contrary the Union Home Ministry sent him a memo and also ordered stoppage of pay since he did not adhere to the transfer orders yet.
