HC slams Govt for not regulating Mining Traffic

The Goa Bench of the Bombay High Court has slammed the Goa government and has directed it to file an affidavit within three weeks on action proposed to stop mining trucks from violating rules while transporting iron-ore.

Taking a serious note on the issue, a division bench comprising of Justice AP Lavande and Justice UV Bakre directed the government to file the affidavit in the stipulated time, failing which the Chief Secretary would have to be present in Court at the next hearing to explain why it was not filed.

On July 27, 2011, the government had told the High Court that it would examine the issue in consultation with mine owners, truck owners and intervenors. But the proposed short-term measures for preventing road accidents by regulating traffic on routes frequented by mining trucks not yet implemented.
