Head Constable Arun Nagappa Dessai who was attached to the Margao Town Police Station, was arrested by Belgaum police for helping two Nepalis sell hashish to a lady from Uttar Pradesh. As soon as the Belgaum Police intimated their Goa counterparts of this development, he was placed under suspension by Superintendent of Police (South) Allen de Sa and ordered an inquiry to be conducted by Deputy Superintendent of Police Mahesh Gaonkar.
Acting on a tip off, Belgaum police arrested two Nepalis who had brought the drugs from Nepal to Goa and were trying to sell it to a lady from Uttar Pradesh.
The drugs were carried from Goa to Belgaum in a vehicle belonging and also driven by Arun Dessai.
Hashish seized from those arrested is estimated to be worth around Rs 26 lakhs in the open market.
Arun Dessai who hails from Halshiwadi in Khanapur taluka of Karnataka claimed that he was innocent and accused the Belgaum police of framing him. All the accused in the case have been remanded to police custody till 15th January.
