Chess Master Himanshu Sharma of Haryana won the Goa Vidhyaprasarak Mandal’s Centennial All India Open Fide Rating Chess Tournament held at Farmagudi, Ponda recently. The event was conducted by Goa Vidhyaprasarak Mandal in association with Goa Chess Association.
Himanshu scored 9.5 points in 11 rounds with clear one point lead over Ratnakaran K of Railways who scored 8.5 points. Himanshu was rewarded with cash prize of Rs. 40,000 and a trophy.
Phooblan P (Tamil Nadu), Arghyadip Das (West Bengal) and Saptarshi Roy (Railways) finished at 3rd, 4th and 5th places with 8.5 points, 8.5 points and 8 points respectively.
Goa’s Anurag Mhamal with Abhishek Kelkar and Anirudh Deshpande, both from Maharashtra finished 7th with the total score of 8 points.
