Close on the heels of the management of Shri Samarth Temple Committee asserting Jayesh Naik’s innocence in the Sultan Bellary murder case, Hindu organizations Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad on Saturday claimed that he was being victimized by the police for taking on anti-socials enjoying their patronage.
It may be recalled that police issued look out notices for Jayesh accusing him along with his brother Rajesh of being involved in the gruesome murder of Sultan Bellary, a known thief, whose headless body was found abandoned by the road side near Ram Nagri in Mogalli earlier this year.
According to the police, Jayesh and his brother Rajesh killed Sultan Bellary because the deceased had broken into Rajesh’s shop at Calcondem and stolen goods from there. Jayesh along with Rajesh surrendered before the Judicial Magistrate First Class on Thursday and both are remanded to police custody.
Bajrang Dal’s Goa convenor Sharad Birajdar argued that police had targeted Jayesh since he had taken on the anti-social elements in Margao who were terrorizing locals. These anti-social, he said enjoyed political patronage and hence were also protected by the police.
Joint Secretary of Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s Konkan region Dipak Gaikwad accused Police Inspector Siddhant Shirodkar of deliberately giving misleading information to the media in order to malign Jayesh and termed his arrest as an attack on Hindu leader.
Mr. Gaikwad while accusing Inspector Shirodkar of being biased, demanded that the case be transferred to a unbiased officer.
