In what apparently was an attempt to intimidate, the eye witness to the hit and run case involving a DySP’s vehicle was on Friday arrested by the Panjim police and subsequently released.
It may be recalled that on Wednesday Sainath Ajrekar from Reis Magos was knocked down by a Maruti Swift vehicle, which fled from the scene. However, Sainath’s friends who were following him chased the vehicle and after noting down the number rushed to their friends aide who being seriously injured was shifted to Goa Medical College Hospital from where he was discharged on Friday.
Tracing the number of the vehicle, it was found to be belonging to a police officer of the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police and that was the reason why the police dragged their feet in not only registering the case but even following up on it.
The police even went to the extent that the case was closed as the parties involved had compromised the matter even though the victim was undergoing treatment in the hospital.
Surprisingly, on Friday the eye witness Umesh Biradar who had noted down the vehicle number was picked up from his residence at Reis Magos on charges of abusing and using filthy language and driving a vehicle in rash and negligent manner.
