In a tweet the Chief Minister, who is suffering from pancreatic cancer, said,” Human mind can overcome any disease. #WorldCancerDay.”
Mr Parrikar, who is currently in All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, for medical check up, had on January 30, 2019, presented annual budget of the state and attended the three day session.
Recently, Dr Sekhar Salkar, Joint Secretary of Goa Cancer Society, had praised the former defence minister saying he had set a ‘good example’.
”In Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, we see a strong man with tremendous willpower to win against the deadly BIG C! In the fight against cancer, there can be only one winner. It’s either the patient or cancer! He has set a good example for all cancer patients that they have to be positive in their approach which can help tide over the crisis!,” Dr Salkar had said in a statement.
However, opposition has been demanding that the chief minister should either resign or distribute his portfolios among his cabinet colleagues. The opposition has been claiming that governance was affected due to ill-health of the chief minister. There has been demand for change in leadership for the coalition partners of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as well although ruling party has insisted that Mr Parrikar is fit enough to run the government.
