Kozhikode, Apr 4 (IECurrentAffairs) Congress nominee and sitting MP of Kozhikode constituency in Kerala M K Raghavan has denied the charges of seeking a kickback in a land deal, as exposed by a private TV channel, through a sting operation, on Wednesday.
Responding to the allegation, as reported in the channel, Mr Raghavan said he will withdraw his candidature for the April 23 Lok Sabha poll, if the charges against him was proved.
Mr Raghavan had gone a step further saying he will also end his public life in the event of the proving the allegation. He had announced his response through a post in his Facebook page late on Wednesday night.
It was on Wednesday that TV9 channel had broadcasted the kickback-controversy through its programme “Bharat Varsh”, which exposed Mr Raghavan as seeking a kickback of Rs 5 crore for facilitating land for a realty company.
The channel reporters had approached the MP pretending as representatives of a Singapore-based real estate company who are on the lookout of getting a prominent land in Calicut for constructing a five-star hotel.
The timing of the controversy comes at a time when the All India Congress Committee President Rahul Gandhi is in Kozhikode yesterday for filing his nomination papers in Wayanad Constituency on Thursday.
