Sydney, Feb 21 (GCSports) Defending champions Australia produced a clinical bowling performance to restrict India to 132 for 4 in the opening match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup at the Showground Stadium, here on Friday.
Deepti Sharma 49 off 46 not out, Shafali Verma 29 off 15 , Jemimah Rodrigues 26 off 33 were the top scorers for India.

Earlier, Australia captain Meg Lanning won the toss and invited India to bat first. Sixteen-year-old Shafali Verma gave India a flying start and took them to 41 for no loss in four overs with a 29 off 15 balls.
However, her fall derailed the innings as Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur got out in quick succession leaving India to struggle 47 for three.
Deepti then shared 53 runs with Jemimah Rodrigues (26 off 33) to bring up the hundred in the 16th over.
She made a composed 46-ball 49 in the second half of the innings but the firepower that India needed in the death overs was badly missing.
In the end, Deepti important knock and Veda Krishnamurthy scored 9* to help India post a a paltry 132/4 in 20 overs.
India: 132 for 4 in 20 overs (Deepti Sharma 49, Shafali 29; Jess Jonaseen 2/24).
