Mangaluru, Nov 1 (GCCurrentAffairs) Indian Coast Guard (ICG) sleuths have arrested 15 fishermen from Iran and seized two boats recently for entering Indian waters illegally.
The arrested fishermen were handed over to Mangaluru Police for further investigations, according to release issued here on Friday.
The arrested fishermen have been identified as Azam Ansari, Abubaker Ansari Miya, Moosa Dahadani, Shidh Baachu, Abdul Majeed, Majeed Rahmani, Mohammed Ishaque, Kareem, Mohammed Baloch, Baman, Naseer Badruj, Abdul Baapur, Anwar Baloch, Nabi Baksh and Yusuf Jahani all citizens of Iran.
All the arrested were remanded to Judicial Custody till November 14 by a Magistrate before whom they were produced.
The fishermen were reportedly arrested by Indian Coast Guard on October 21, while patrolling near Lakshadweep.
The Coast Guard also seized both of their boats, one of which drowned due to technical glitch while being escorted to the shore. ‘The fishermen on the drowning boat were rescued by Coast Guard and all the fishermen were brought to shore,’ a release added
