Bengaluru, Apr 30 (GCSports) In a five-over side shootout in rain truncated match, leg spinner Shreyas Gopal returned with a sensational hat-trick to help Rajasthan Royals to restrict Royal Challengers Bengaluru to 62 for 7 in the IPL league tie played at M Chinnaswamy stadium here on Monday.
Put into to bat first after the match was marred by heavy rains under the fringe effect caused by Fani cyclonic storm that crossed Odisha coast today, the match was curtailed to a five-over a side shootout.
RCB Captain Virat Kohli and prolific AB de Villers opened the innings with Kohli going berserk hitting Varun Aaron for two sixes in the first two balls of the opening over of the game and de Villiers helped himself with two boundaries as RCB raced to 23-0.
But local lad Shreyas Gopal, the most successful bowler for Rajasthan Royals this season, struck a sensational hat-trick removing Virat Kohli who struck a 7-ball 25 (6×3, 4×1) first and later sent back AB de Villiers 10 (4b, 2×4) caught by Riyan Parag the next delivery. On the final ball of the over he scalped Marcus Stoinis (00) to complete the hat-trick that curtailed the RCB run.
In the next three overs RCB struggled losing five more wickets in a jiffy to end at 62 for 7 as Parthiv Patel (04) and Gurukeerat Singh Mann (06) were dismissed in quick succession.
20-year old West Indian fast bowler Oshane Thomas sent back Heinrich Klassen (06) AND Pawan Negi (00) to claim two wickets for 6 runs.
