Independent MLA withdraws support to BJP govt in Goa

Panaji: Prasad Gaonkar, an independent MLA representing Sanguem Assembly constituency in the state assembly, Wednesday announced that he was withdrawing support to Pramod Sawant government.

Addressing a press conference in the city, he said he had lost faith in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government and submitted a letter to the Governor informing him about his decision.

Recently Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant had accused the MLA of trying to strike a land deal for the upcoming IIT project in the state. Gaonkar said, he was shocked with the statement of the Chief Minister and challenged the him to prove the charge against him.

The upcoming IIT project is facing resistance from the local people. Initially it was to come up in Sanguem but later was shifted to Sattari.

The MLA said, he would expose the BJP government in the days to come.

Though there is no immediate threat to the government, it has reduced number of MLAs supporting the government from 29 to 28. Currently BJP has 27 MLAs and it has support of one independent MLA.
