Kolkata, Dec 15GCBusiness) The Indian Tea Association (ITA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with China Tea Marketing Association(CTMA) for a volume leap in tea exports.
ITA Chairman Vivek Goenka and his counterpart Wang Qing of CTMA had graced the MoU signing ceremony.
India is eyeing to export 15 million kgs of black tea to China this year. “China imports around 30 million kgs of black tea from India, Srilanka and Kenya”, said Mr. Goenka.
Mr. Qing said, “Though we are importing largest portion of our imported tea from Srilanka but there is rising preferences of CTC too. Srilanka also promotes their tea well in China. If India starts promoting then I think their market will grow bigger.”
But China is not so interested in promoting their tea in India. “Domestic tea prices in India is cheaper than domestic tea prices in China. That’s why it will not be an effective step”, added Mr. Qing.
This MoU is to ensure sustainability of tea industry and promoting black and green tea globally.
