Chandigarh, Feb 8 (GCSports) India (Pool-A), China and Indonesia (Pool-B) won their respective matches in the Asia/Oceania Group I in Astana, Kazakhstan of the 2019 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas.
After losing the opening singles, India rallied to get the better of Thailand by 2-1 in the Pool -A at the National Tennis Centre, Astana, Kazakhstan on Thursday. Nudnida Luangnam gave Thailand 1-0 lead after beating Karman Kaur Thandi of India 6-2 3-6 6-3. Ankita Raina restored parity of India by defeating Peangtarn Plipuech of Thailand 6-7(3) 6-2 6-4 in the second singles.
Tied one-all Indian duo of Ankita Raina and Karman Kaur Thandi clinched victory after defeating the Thailand pair of Nudnida Luangnam/Peangtarn Plipuech 6-4 6-7(6) 7-5.
In Pool-B China, P R blanked Korea by 3-0 and Indonesia defeated Pacific Oceania by 3-0.
2019 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Group I and II events taking place on February 6 to 9: Americas Group I in Medellin, Colombia; Europe/Africa Group I in Bath, Great Britain; Europe/Africa Group I in Zielona Gora, Poland; Asia/Oceania Group I in Astana, Kazakhstan; and Europe/Africa Group II in Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg.
All nations contesting the Group I events will be bidding to qualify for the Fed Cup World Group II play-offs on April 20-21, with two teams qualifying from the Europe/Africa Zone, and one team from both the Americas and Asia/Oceania Zones.
