New Delhi, Dec 11 (GCCurrentAffairs) India has formally thanked authorities in United Kingdom (UK) for their help vis-a-vis highly controversial business tycoon Vijay Mallya.
“We have seen the order of the Court in the case of the extradition of Mr Vijay Mallya to India. We express our deep satisfaction at the judgement and note that justice has been delivered today,” MEA spokesman Raveesh Kumar has said in reply to queries regarding order by the UK Court on the extradition of Vijay Mallya.
He further said: “We thank the UK authorities for their help in this matter. We will continue to work with the UK Government for expeditious implementation of today’s court order and early extradition of Mr Mallya to India”.
Mr Mallya faces a raft of charges relating to financial irregularities at Kingfisher Airlines. His monetary affairs are being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Enforcement Directorate.
A London court on Monday ordered extradition of the business tycoon.
BJP chief Amit Shah and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley have hailed the court orders.
“Vijay Mallya’s extradition is a very significant development in India’s fight against corruption,” tweeted Mr Shah even as number of BJP leaders sought to claim that after Christian Michel’s ‘extradition’ from Dubai, the developments in London court has given a boost to Modi government in its crusade against corruption.
“The credit for this (court order in London) goes entirely to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who ensured that the agencies were unrelenting in their pursuit of the man who had bled Indian banks and fled,” BJP president wrote.
