Kanniyakumari: International Fishermen Development Trust (INFIDET) on Tuesday appealed to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Edappadi K Palaniswami and Kerala Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan to take steps to rescue 11 fishermen who were stranded at high seas off Azhikkal coast in Kerala.
INFIDET President P.Justin Antony, in an e-mail sent to Mr Palaniswami, said that a mechanized fishing boat with 11 fishers had set sail into sea for deep sea fishing from Thengapattinam fishing harbour in Kanniyakumari on September 14.
The fishermen then made contact through a satellite phone that there was a technical snag in the engine and sought the assistance of Indian maritime forces to rescue them at the earliest.
While ten of them were from Kanniyakumari, one was from Thiruvananthapuram district, he said.
He requested both the Tamil Nadu and Kerala governments to take immediate steps to rescue the stranded fishermen.
Meanwhile, a senior officer of Tamil Nadu Fisheries Department said, they have informed their counterparts in Kerala about the stranded fishermen and would seek the assistance of Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard to rescue them.
