Interim Report on Ghats By 30th June

The interim report on the Western Ghats will be presented on 30th June as the government wants it by then due to various reasons, disclosed Madhav Gadgil who is heading the Western Ghats Ecology Expert Panel constituted by the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests.
The interim report will address issues crucial for policy decision of the State government including mining.
The final report which is expected to be ready by 31st August is delayed as the feedback from some quarters has not yet been received,
The report is eagerly awaited in Goa as it is expected to resolve the contention issue of buffer zone around wild life sanctuaries. The state government’s proposal to have a zero buffer zone, reportedly at the instance of the powerful mining lobby, has already been rejected by the National Wildlife Board headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
