Introspect: CM to Media

Chief Minister Digambar Kamat asked the media fraternity to introspect and be conscious before wielding their pens while  addressing media persons at the National Press Day Celebration organized by Department of Information and Publicity in collaboration with Goa Editors Guild and Goa Union of Journalists (GUJ) at Kala Academy Black Box on Tuesday.
Media, he said, plays an important role in democracy and therefore journalists should concentrate on factual reporting in the interest of the society.

The chief minister said his government had always supported media proposals like Patrakar Krityanidtya Nidhi and interest free loans to journalists for purchase of computers, laptops etc. He also promised to consider the proposal to set up a Press Club in Goa.
Secretary of Information and Publicity, Narendra Kumar said that media is an instrument through which information is disseminated to the people on various aspects. He said, due to competition particularly from electronic media one can see the traditional newspapers turned into glossy newspapers and readers, listeners and viewers are perceived as customers.
Editor (Law), Times of India, Mumbai, Swati Deshpand  who delivered the  keynote address on the theme Media in Globalization and Competition: Challenges and Opportunities said  that media plays a significant role in globalized  World. It is also a watch dog and the voice of the society and contributes immensely to transform the society. Media is also one of the best instruments to enlighten the people, expose social issues and help masses reap the benefits of government schemes and facilities.  She also urged media persons to turn challenges into opportunities.
The chief minister felicitated two senior journalists Arun Bhathkande and Sharad Tendulkar, for their contribution in the field of journalism.
