INX media case: SC grants bail to Chidambaram

New Delhi, Dec 4 (GCCurrentAffairs) The Supreme Court on Wednesday granted bail to former finance minister P Chidambaram in the INX media money laundering case.

A bench, headed by Justice R Banumathi, granted bail to the senior Congress leader on a bail bond of Rs 2 lakh along with two sureties.
The Apex Court criticised the Delhi High Court for making observations on the merit of allegations.

The bench said Chidambaram cannot travel outside the country without Court’s permission and cannot make public statements or give press interviews with regard to the case.
The bench also mentioned that the leader should not get in touch with the witnesses in the case.
It directed Chidambaram to be present for interrogation as and when asked by ED.
The Top Court has reserved the order on November 28.
The case pertains to the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance given to INX Media to the tune of Rs 305 crore in 2007 during Chidambaram’s tenure as the finance minister.
