Dubai: Half centuries from Shikhar Dhawan 57 off 33, skipper Shreyas Iyer 53 off 43 helped DC post a defendable 161/7 in 20 overs against RR in the 30th match of the IPL at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, here on Wednesday.
The 85 runs partnerships for third wicket between Dhawan and Iyer and another 37 run stand from Stoinis and Iyer for 4th wicket took DC score to respectable 161.
Other who chipped in were Stoinis 18 off 19 (1 four), Alex Carey 14 off 13 (1 Six) and Axar Patel 7.
Earlier, DC won the toss and opted to bat first.
The Capitals lost two wickets within a span of 10 runs, first losing opener Prithvi Shaw for a duck in the very first spell of the first over bowled by Archer and then of Rahane in 3rd over for 2 runs, Archer taking his second wicket.
After Rahane’s departure, Iyer along with Dhawan took control of the innings and kept the flow of the runs going smashing RR bowlers for fours and sixes taking their partnership to 85 runs for third wicket.
But then Dhawan was removed by Shreyas Gopal in 12th over at 57, DC losing their third wicket under 95 runs.
Iyer who had completed his half century in 15th over with 1, 6, 2 and 6 in Unadkat’s spell had to go after Kartik Tyagi picked his wicket in 15.6 over.
DC were now 4 down after 132 runs. Archer claimed his third wicket in form of Stoinis at 18 off 19 (1 four) in 18.6 over.
DCs sixth wicket was of Carey on 14 (1 six) clinched by Unadkat and then last wicket in the last ball of the last over was of Axar Patel at 7 runs Unadkat picking his second wicket.
DC managed to pull off just 18 off the last three overs and 32 off the last five.For RR wicket-takers were Archer 3/19, Unadkat 2/32, Tyagi 1/30 and Gopal 1/31.
