Dubai: Riding on a excellent fifty by captain Virat Kohli, Royal Challengers Bangalore posted a total of 169-4 against Chennai Super Kings in the 25th match of IPL 2020, at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, here on Saturday.
Kohli scored 90 off 52 while Devdutt Padikkal (33 off 34) and Shivam Dube (22* off 14) also played important knocks and helped RCB post a fighting total in Dubai.
After winning toss electing to bat, RCB were off to a bad start as Aaron Finch got out in the third over for just 2 runs.
Captain Virat Kohli came next to bat and joined Devdutt Padikkal in the middle. The duo batted cautiously and took RCB to 36-1 at the end of powerplay.
Shardul Thakur gave CSK the much needed breakthrough as he dismissed Padikkal for 33 from 34.
Kohli and Padikkal added 53 runs for the 2nd wicket.
Shardul picked his second wicket in the same over, dismissing AB de Villiers for duck. Washington Sundar joined his captain in the middle as Bangalore looked for some momentum.
While Kohli stood firm at one end, he failed to find support from the other as Washington Sundar departed after scoring 10.
However, Kohli once again showed his class and got to his 38th IPL fifty. In slog overs Kohli dealt in sixes and turned the pressure on CSK and their bowlers.
In the end, Kohli scored an unbeaten 90 as RCB posted 169/4 in 20 overs against CSK. Shivam Dube too chipped in with some big hits and played a good cameo, scoring an unbeaten 22 runs in 14 balls.
Shardul Thakur picked 2 wickets, while Deepak Chahar and Sam Curran picked one wicket each for CSK.
