Irish Embassy to take-up ‘Geldof’ issue

Taking serious cognizance to the letter written by the Hindu Jangagruti Samiti (HJS) and the Open Letter of the Editor-in-Chief of, the Embassy of Ireland has decided to take up the issue with the musician and concerned authorities in Ireland.

In a letter to HJS, Gerry Kelly, Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Ireland, stated, “Many thanks for your message of  November 6, 2012, regarding comments by Bob Geldof, which we have forwarded to the appropriate authorities for their attention.”

The Deputy Head of Mission further elaborated that Ireland and India have a long-standing and warm relationship and I can assure you that the Embassy of Ireland holds the people of India and of Goa in the highest esteem. The relationship between our countries continues to intensify, with an increased knowledge and awareness in Ireland of India’s rich and varied culture. There are also increasing numbers of people of Indian origin in Ireland, who are a valued part of our society.

The embassy looks forward to the further development of this relationship and the continued growth in the level of knowledge, understanding and mutual respect between our peoples and cultures, the letter further stated.
