Tel Aviv: The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it struck strategic buildings belonging to radical Palestinian movement Hamas.
“Our fighter jets just struck a number of strategically significant buildings belonging to Hamas & a Hamas naval force squad,” the IDF said on Twitter.
“Targets struck: Hamas’ main bank [and] Hamas counterintelligence infrastructure. We continue to strike terror targets in Gaza,” it said.
The situation on the border between Israel and the Gaza Strip escalated sharply on Monday evening. More than 1,500 rockets were fired at Israeli territory from the Palestinian enclave. As a result of almost continuous rocket attacks on Israeli settlements, six Israelis were killed and more than 200 were injured.
Israel delivered strikes at the Gaza Strip, hitting targets of Palestinian groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad and killing several militants, including senior warlords. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, 56 people were killed in Israeli attacks in Gaza.
