Israeli foreign minister personally thanks Putin for Soviet liberation of Auschwitz

Moscow, Jan 23 (GCCurrentAffairs) Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz has personally thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin for the Soviet Red Army’s liberation of the Auschwitz death camp and its contribution to the defeat of Nazism.
“I would like to thank the Red Army for liberating the Auschwitz concentration camp and helping to defeat Nazi Germany. I want to personally thank you for the liberation because my mother was one of those who were in the concentration camp and were liberated by the Red Army,” Katz said, welcoming Putin upon the arrival at the airport.
The footage was broadcast by the Rossiya 24 TV channel.
Jerusalem is currently hosting the 5th World Holocaust Forum, which is timed to the 75th anniversary of Auschwitz’s liberation. President Putin, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian President Sergio Mattarella, US Vice President Michael Pence, President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier are among the forum’s participants.
Later in the day, Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will also open a monument in Jerusalem to commemorate the victims of the siege of Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) during the Second World War.
