New Delhi, June 17 (GCCurrentAffairs) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said issues in the Parliament should be discvussed in an ‘impartial’ spirit.
‘When we come to Parliament, we should forget ‘Paksh’ and ‘Vipaksh’. We should think about issues with a ‘Nishpaksh spirit’ and work in the larger interest of the nation,’ the Prime Minister told reporters ahead of the commencement of the opening session of the new Lok Sabha.
Hopeful of a smooth functioning of Parliament, the Prime Minister said Parliament functioning smoothly will help to fulfil numerous aspirations of people of the country.
Mr Modi welcomed all the new MPs ahead of the first session of 17th Lok Sabha.
‘Today marks the start of the first session after the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. I welcome all new MPs. With them comes new hopes, new aspirations and new determination to serve,’he said.
Mr Modi said the Parliament is able to fulfil the aspirations of people when it functions smoothly.
‘My experience suggests that when the Parliament functions smoothly, we are able to fulfil numerous aspirations of the people of India,’ he said.
The Prime Minister also underlined the importance of opposition in parliamentary democracy.
He expressed hope that the opposition will play an active role and participate in House proceedings.
‘The role of an Opposition and an active Opposition is important in a Parliamentary democracy. The Opposition need not bother about their numbers. I hope they speak actively and participate in house proceedings,’ Mr Modi said.
He expressed hope that the public welfare will be the priority for everyone.
Mr Modi expressed happiness in the increased number of women Parliamentarians in the 17th Lok Sabha.
He said the 17 Lok Sabha witnessed maximum participation of Women voters.
