The Collegium’s proposal to have the Chief Justices of the Andhra Pradesh High Court and the Sikkim High Court switch places has been greenlit by the Central Government through two notifications issued today.
Chief Justice Jitendra Kumar Maheshwari, who was heading the Andhra Pradesh High Court has now been appointed the Chief Justice of the Sikkim High Court.
By a separate notification, Chief Justice Arup Kumar Goswami of the Sikkim High Court has now been transferred for appointment as the Andhra Pradesh High Court’s Chief Justice.
The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended the transfers by a resolution passed on December 14.
The Centre’s decision to concur with the said proposal comes a day after Justice Rakesh Kumar of the Andhra Pradesh High Court expressed concern over the timing of the Collegium’s proposal to transfer Chief Justice Maheshwari.
