When the hearing of the infamous Ribandar Church matter began on Tuesday before the Judicial Magistrate First Class at Panjim Sarika Phaldessai, the presiding judge was urged to visit the Ribandar church which was the scene of offence as mentioned in the charge sheet.
Advocate Aires Rodrigues who along with another 14 residents of Ribandar have been charge sheeted, brought it to the notice of the Court that the Crime Branch had not submitted any sketch, plan or design of the scene of the incident and therefore urge the Judge to visit the site to be in a better position to decide upon the case.
Arguments on this application will now be heard on 2nd June when the case is taken up for hearing.
Meanwhile on Tuesday the court examined one witness Mrs Connie Rosario, a teacher at the Red Rosary High School, Miramar who was a member of the Church committee at the time of the incident.
In her deposition she admitted being confused on the day of the incident and her confusion was further revealed by Adv. Rodrigues during his cross examination which lasted nearly two hours.
The witness admitted that bells of the church were pealed to gather the parishioners who later went to the police station. She also admitted that the then parish priest Fr, Newton Rodrigues was accused of having molested a minor girl.
