New Delhi, Jan 8 (GCCurrentAffairs) Vice Chancellor of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Prof. Jagdesh Kumar on Wednesday met the Human Resource Development Secretary Amit Khare here over incidents of violence in the university campus on Sunday evening.
The VC along with the Rector II Professor Satish Chandra apprised the Secretary of the situation in the university which was peaceful at present and informed that the dates for the student registrations for Winter semester have been extended to January 12 that too without any fine.
The VC also informed the HRD Secretary on the Communications and Information Systems in the university that have been restored and are now online.
As part of registration process, about 3300 students have deposited fee for online registration.
Further , the JNU administration has appealed to all the stakeholders to maintain peace in the campus and not to get provoked by any misinformation.
Meawhile , the MHRD has advised the university administration to make all out efforts to maintain peace and restore normal functioning of the University at the earliest.
On Sunday evening, a mob of masked goons had attacked students in some of the hostels of the university and also vandalised property.
Days before the violence, the university server was allegedly damaged by the students to stall the registration process amidst the ongoing protests against the hostel fee hike.
