Kaagaz Scanner crosses 1 million downloads

Kaagaz Scanner has crossed 1 Million Downloads (in less than 2 months) on Google Playstore with a 4.2* Rating. The team also got special mention in #AatmaNirbharBharat App Innovation Challenge and have also gotten recognition from the Ministry of Education.

Kaagaz Scanner have over 60,000 unique users coming to the app everyday and so far more than 10 million pages have been scanned using Kaagaz Scanner in about 1.5 months.

INCUBEES caught up with the pioneers of Kaagaz Scanner App Founders Snehanshu Gandhi, Gaurav Shrishrimal and Tamanjit Singh Bindra.

INCUBEES: Tell us about your product or services?

KAAGAZ SCANNER: We currently have two products – Kaagaz Scanner App & Sorted AI Reminders App. Kaagaz is a document scanning app while Sorted AI is an intelligent reminders app.

India has over 50 crore internet users. 80% of these are using internet primarily from their phones. None of the existing utility apps were built for these users. We are looking to build a suite of AI powered utility tools for this Bharat user. Our tools help users manage their day-to-day tasks like managing documents, remembering tasks, taking notes, managing information etc. with minimum effort by leveraging artificial intelligence.

INCUBEES: What makes your product unique and what competition do you see in India and globally?

KST: All utility products of the previous generation required a lot of manual effort from the users for them to work. We are leveraging artificial intelligence to automate a lot of those things and making it very easy for users to manage their day-to-day tasks. From a pure utility products perspective, we compete with other global products for scanning, cloud storage, notes & reminders etc. but leveraging AI for building next gen utility products is a relatively new field with not much competition globally except from giants like Google.

INCUBEES: What are the challenges you see in the market at this point of time?

KST: Utility products as such are commoditized to a large extent. For every kind of tool that you can think of, there are many products available. Not all of them are of course of the best quality always but it gets challenging to differentiate among the number of apps in each category.

Leveraging AI, we have been building tools that are a few notches above all the other products in each category and we believe that will help us create a differentiation in the market.

INCUBEES: Tell us about your team and what inspires them?

KST: We are a team of 3 founders:

Snehanshu Gandhi is an IIT Bombay & ISB Hyderabad alumnus with over 12 years of work experience. Snehanshu is a third time entrepreneur. He focuses on Product and Strategy for Sorted AI & Kaagaz.

Gaurav Shrishrimal is an IIT Kanpur alumnus with over 5 years of work experience. Gaurav is a second time entrepreneur. He focuses on Growth for Sorted AI & Kaagaz.

Tamanjit Bindra is an Army Institute of Technology, Pune alumnus with over 12 years of work experience. He is been a hands-on tech guy all through his career. He focused on Technology for Sorted AI & Kaagaz.

INCUBEES: Where do you see your product reaching in the next 5 years?

KST: In 5 years we aim to become a personal assistant for all our users, proactively helping them in manage all kinds of day-to-day tasks, whether it is searching an important document / information or getting reminders for a bill payment or an insurance renewal date.

INCUBEES: Do you have plans to raise funding to grow your business or allow your business to grow organically?

KST: Yes, we do plan to raise fund to grow the business. The primary focus is on making sure we have a great team that can build the products that delight our users and are able to help in every aspect of their daily lives.

INCUBEES: What are the challenges you face as a startup?

KST: One of the key challenges as a startup is building a great team, especially when you are trying to build something which is at the cutting edge of technology.
