New Delhi: Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut, who has been facing threats from Shiv Sena leaders following her open confrontation with the Maharashtra government on the mysterious death of Sushant Singh Rajput, will be be provided ‘Y’ category security cover by the Centre.
The decision was taken by the Union Home Ministry after assessment of her threat perception.
The ‘Y’ category security cover involves 11 security personnel, including six commandos from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
Besides, Himachal Pradesh Government will also provide state police security cover to her while she is in her home town Manali. If required, state police will provide her security in Mumbai as well.
The CRPF will soon do a preliminary round of security assessments for the actress.
Kangana Ranaut thanked Home Minister Amit Shah for providing security cover to her.
Taking to twitter, she said “This is proof that no fascist will be able to crush a patriotic voice, I am thankful to @amit Shah ji as he kept the word of a daughter of India, respected my self-respect”.
The decision to provide state security to Kangana was taken after her parents met Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur and requested him for the same, the Chief Minister said in a recorded message to media on Monday.
Assessment of the threat perception to her was carried out by Director General of State Police Sanjay Kundu.
Thakur said that in addition to CRPF commandos, state police jawans would be deployed outside the actor’s Manali residence and if required, the state police would offer security cover during her stay in Mumbai or another part of the country.
‘Ranaut is Himachal Pradesh’s daughter and therefore, her security is the prime priority of the state government. The government will assist her as she has brought laurels to the state by delivering a string of great performances in the Hindi cinema,’ the Chief Minister said.
The State Government was apprised by the Union Home Ministry that 11 commandos were already deployed to provide her security cover in Mumbai.
Ranaut has been in the eye of the storm recently over some of her comments about Mumbai and the drug mafia allegedly plaguing the Mumbai film industry.
Following her remarks Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut and Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh threatened Kangana, who is at present in her home town Manali, and asked her not to return to Mumbai.
Kangana hit back saying she would return on September 9 and dared Sanjay Raut to do whatever he liked to prevent her from returning.
