As the deadline given by the residents of Khariwado, Vasco to the government to resolve their problem has ended the people under the banner of Khariwado Affected People (KAP) launched their agitation on Thursday.
Initially, black flags are hoisted all over the place and even the around 250 trawlers and around the same number of canoes in Vasco have hoisted black flags on their vessels to mark their protests.
The fishing community has extended its support to the protest as a result of which the fish market was deserted since the vendors closed shop for the day.
While 66 houses in Khariwado were demolished, many more are still facing the threat of demolition as their cases are still pending before the Administrative Tribunal.
KAP had called on Chief Minister Digambar Kamat to resolve their problem as they have been not only living in Khariwado but also carrying out their fishing activity from there even before the Mormugao Port Trust came into being or for that matter the Coastal Regulation Zone came into effect.
