New Delhi, Aug 28 (GCCurrentAffairs) Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday announced that for 10 Sundays starting September 1 to November 15, he will check his own home at 1000 hrs for 10 mins to ensure there’s no standing water for dengue mosquitos to breed.
The CM urged all of Delhi to join the ‘#10Hafte10Baje10Minute’ campaign.
Addressing the mediapersons, Mr Kejriwal said,’If all of us in Delhi inspect their homes for just 10 minutes every Sunday morning, we can successfully combat dengue. Make sure there’s no standing water at any place in your home, and if there is, pour it out, replace it or pour oil over it.”
Mr Kejriwal announced mega campaign to combat dengue this year.
‘In three years dengue cases have dropped by 80 per cent. This year Delhi will unite and end dengue. Delhi citizens will give 10 minutes every Sunday morning at 1000 hrs for the campaign,’ he said.
“While the country faces an upward trend, Delhi’s dengue cases have been lowering consistently in the past four years. In 2015 Dengue cases-15,867, but in 2018 they were down to 2,798. This is massive drop of 80 per cent in three years,” he said.
“Dengue and Chikungunya are among the most dreaded illnesses in the monsoon season not just in Delhi, but the entire country. India is among one of the 100 endemic countries with the incidence of dengue on a continuous rise,’ he said.
“As a result, Delhi has seen an unprecedented increase in health facilities–be it in terms of hospital beds, new mohalla clinics or polyclinics,’ the CM said.
“Delhi government’s health budget has more than doubled from Rs 3,500 crore in 2014-15 to about Rs 7,800 crore in 2019-20. It is not 14 per cent of the Delhi Budget,’ he added.
Deputy CM Manish Sisodia said in a tweet,’Delhi CM @ArvindKejriwal leads Delhi with a strong stand against Dengue & Chickengunya. The no. of cases has reduced from 15,867 in 2015 to 2,798 in 2018.
