Thiruvananthapuram, May 13 (GCCurrentAffairs) Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who is on a European tour, will attend the World Reconstruction Conference (WRC) in Geneva in Switzerland on Monday.
The WRC is a global forum that provides a platform to collect, assess, and share experiences in disaster recovery and reconstruction and take forward the policy dialogue, official sources said here.
The Chief Minister, who reached Geneva after his four-day visit in Netherlands, already met World Bank Director (Social, Urban, Rural and Resilience Global Practice) Mr Sameh Wahba and held discussions on disaster recovery and reconstruction.
According to the Kerala government, one-sixth of the total population of the State had been directly affected by the floods and related incidents in August 2018.
The two-day Conference, from May 13 will be under the theme “Inclusion for Resilient Recovery,” building on the recognition and consensus of previous WRCs that recovery can risk reinforcing existing inequalities; that a resilient recovery is imperative to sustainable development and poverty reduction; and that to be resilient, recovery must build back better.
The conference brings together leaders, experts, policy makers, and practitioners from government, international organizations, NGOs, academia, and the private sector from both developing and developed countries. It will also build on the experience and lessons learned from the previous editions.
