Shimla: The Mercury plunged to minus last night at Keylong, headquarters of Lahaul Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh, increasing the coldwave in the state, the weather man said.
Director of Indian Meteorological Centre Shimla Manmohan Singh said that Keylong froze at minus one degree Celsius.
‘The Mercury fell under subzero first time in this winter season at Keylong, recorded two degrees below the normal and dip by 1.9 degrees in last 24 hours”, Singh said.
The minimum temperature was, however, above freezing point in rest of state as it was 2.7 degrees in Kalpa in Kinnuar district, 4.2 degrees in tourist resort Manali in Kullu district, 8.1 degree at tourist resort Kufri(Shimla) Dalhousie (Chamba) 9.5 d egress and 7.9 degrees at Sundernagar (Mandi).
Minimum temperature of Chamba was 8.4 degrees Solan and Bhuntar (Kullu) 8.7 degrees each, Mandi and Palampur (Kangra) nine degrees each, 10.4 degrees in Kangra , 11 degrees each Shimla, Hamirpur and Bilaspur, 11.4 degrees in Una, 11.6 degrees in Dharmshala and (Kangra), 14.9 degrees in Nahan (Sirmaur district).
Manali received mm rainfall yesterday while the rest of the state was mainly dry. The Met office forecast that dry weather would continue in the state during next 24 hours.
