Even as the demolition of houses at Khariwado in Vasco was deferred for Thursday due to inadequate police force, the administration has invoked Section 144 around the area for the next three days to enable them to fulfill the court order.
Deputy Collector (Mormugao) Levinson Martins said Section 144 has been imposed to prevent gatherings of anti-social elements who may incite others to create a law and order situation.
Section 144 has been imposed along the stretch of road from T B Cunha Chowk to the crematorium at Khariwado for 50 mts on both sides of the road.
Meanwhile, the affected residents staged a rally in the Port town and called for a Vasco bandh on Thursday.
The fishing operations in Vasco are expected to be totally paralysed as the fishing community has extended its support to the affected residents, most of whom are fruit and vegetable vendors.
The demolitions are slated to commence at 9 pm on Thursday and will go on till 5:30 pm.
