Over 250 people displaced by the demolition of their houses at Khariwado, Vasco on Friday evening held a sit-in protest in Panjim late evening demanding that the government give them their land back and refused to accept any rehabilitation package.
The protestors who reached the state capital at around half past 8 demanded that Chief Minister Digambar Kamat meets them. Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Milind Naik who had raised the issue in the House on Thursday told them that the Chief Minister would meet them at Margao the next day.
However, the protestors refused to budge from Panjim and continued with their sit in demanding that the chief minister meet them there itself.
A strong police force was posted at the site and prevented the protestors from gathering near the chief minister’s official residence.
Leader of Opposition Manohar Parrikar, who met the protestors suggested that if the government does not come out with a solution by Tuesday, they should shift their protest to the Legislative Assembly complex.
