Samir Shaikh who created a stir on 13th October when he attempted to commit suicide in the Children’s Court, on Tuesday escaped from the Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour where he was undergoing treatment.
Samir who has been remanded to judicial custody on charges of kidnapping his own nephew and seeking ransom for his release, had slit his throat on 13th October when the judge was writing the order extending his judicial custody.
Samir was rushed to the Goa Medical College where he was discharged after giving first aid and was then admitted to the IPHB. On Tuesday, Samir along with four other patients managed to give the security personnel the slip as they were brought out of their rooms for lunch at around 1:15 pm.
Agassaim Police Inspector Vishwesh Karpe disclosed that Samir’s photograph along with other identification details have been flashed to all local police stations and also in Mumbai to nab him.
This is the second time that Samir has succeeded in escaping from custody. When he was being brought down to Goa from Mumbai where he was arrested with the kidnapped child, he escaped but was caught within 24 hours.
Besides the kidnapping case and a case of attempted suicide registered against him, police have now booked another case of escape from legal custody against Samir.
