The Goa Bench of the Bombay High Court has upheld the conviction of Assistant Labour Commissioner Chaitanya Audichya for bribery and asked him to surrender before the authorities in two weeks.
Audichya was caught red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a civil contractor by the Central Bureau of Investigation’s Anti Corruption Branch in 2003. The trial court had found him guilty and sentenced him to one-year imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000. However, Audichya had challenged that order before the High Court.
Justice N A Britto upheld the trial court’s order and directed Audichya to surrender within two weeks.
According to the CBI, Audichya had initially asked for a bribe of Rs 30,000 which was reduced to Rs 10,000.
