Ranchi: Former Bihar Chief Minister and RJD Supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav on Friday was granted bail in Chaibasa Treasury Case of the multi crore Fodder Scam of the 1990s.
Justice Apresh Kumar granted the bail to Lalu Yadav and directed his lawyers to submit Rs 2 lakh in a lower court.
However, Lalu will not be able to come out of jail as he has been convicted and awarded imprisonment in multiple cases of the fodder scam. So far he has got bail in two cases while to step out he needs to get bail in another case.
The former Chief Minister has got bails in cases related to Deoghar and Chaibasa treasury but he has not got bail in Dumka treasury case.
On December 23, 2017 Lalu Yadav was first awarded an imprisonment of 3.5 years in Deoghar Treasury case of the Fodder Scam which was related to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 84.53 crore. On March 24, 2018 he was awarded 7-7 years of imprisonment under two separate sections in connection with Dumka Treasury case which was related to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 3.13 crore.
While in two separate cases of fraudulent withdrawal from Chaibasa Treasury worth Rs 37.7 crore and Rs 33.67 crore, he was awarded imprisonment of five years each. Imprisonment in all these three cases was running simultaneously.
In July 2019 he was granted bail in Deoghar Treasury Case while on three occasions his bail has been cancelled in Dumka Treasury case.
Lalu Yadav has remained in the jail since December 2017 when he was awarded imprisonment in Deoghar Treasury case. Currently, he has been kept at the Bungalow of RIMS Director where he was undergoing treatment for various health related issues as due to rising cases of Coronavirus the RIMS administration decided to move him from the paying ward to a much lesser crowded and safe location.
