Chief Minister Digambar Kamat admitted that land was the root cause of all problems in Goa including the political upheavals.
Speaking at a function held to honour Mahableshwar Sail with the first Vimala V Pai Vishwa Konkani Sahitya Puraskar at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao on Saturday, he said that people are agitating over sale of land in Goa to outsiders.
Reacting to T V Mohandas Pai, Director of Infosys Technologies to make Goa a hug for education by setting up institutes of repute in the State, the Chief Minister said there was a constraint of land.
He pointed out that even the proposal to upgrade Goa University to a Central University had to be dropped because of stiff opposition from the locals, which was basically due to land.
He said the suggestions would be conveyed to the committee given the task of preparing Goa Vision document.
Earlier Pai had suggested that Goa become an educational hub by inviting the best schools and colleges to set up shop in the State. He suggested that just as Jews dominate the world, Konkani speaking people should be able to able to dominate the country.
