The Law Department is learnt to have recommended a police probe into the high security registration plates issue more particularly in the tendering process.
It may be recalled that the government had cancelled the contract with Shimnit Utsch Pvt Ltd to provide the number plates about four months back and Transport Minister Sudin Dhavalikar had recently informed the Assembly that the Law Department’s opinion was awaited.
The Law Department has apparently recommended a thorough probe after going through the report submitted by Chief Secretary Sanjay Srivastava where various serious issues have been raised.
Shimnit Utsch’s qualification to bid for the tender itself has come under cloud particularly because of the status of its collaboration with a foreign company. Besides other anomalies like inked correction in the agreement not countersigned have also been observed, which the Law Department opined needed to be investigated by police.
