Law to bar politicians from Sports Associations

The Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar informed the Goa Legislative Assembly that the state would enact a legislation to bar active politicians from holding posts in sports associations.

“We are not interested in taking over any sports body and our government was not in favor of politicians heading sports associations,” expressed Parrikar.

Parrikar was answering to the suggestions raised by the Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai who opined that there should be not politicisation of sports in the state and that he himself who is a member of the Board of Wrestling Federation of India will resign from the post. He assured the House that the government will enact a legislation on this but it would take time to bring about this change.
