Chennai, Mar 7 (TNCCurrentAffairs) Leaders cutting across party lines paid homage to the mortal remains of the grand old man of DMK and long time party General Secretary K.Anbazhagan, who died in the wee hours of today, after a prolonged illness at the age of 97.
The body of the nine time MLA, who had served as the Finance Minister, Lok Sabha member and also as MLC, was brought to his Kilpauk residence early this morning after he breathed his last at 0100 hrs at a private hospital, where he was admitted on February 24 due to age-related ailments.
DMK President M K Stalin, accompanied by senior party leaders, who paid homage to the nonagenarian leader at the hospital, later visited his residence and paid his last respects by placing a wreath on his body.
Mr Stalin also penned a tearful poem as a tribute to the DMK stalwart, who was the first to propose his name as the successor to late DMK Patriarch and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.
Senior leaders, including DMK MPs Kanimozhi, A Raja, T R Baalu, MDMK General Secretary Vaiko and VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan, former DMK Ministers, party functionaries and cadres, besides alliance
parties leaders including from Congress, CPI and CPI(M) filed past the body of Mr Anbazhagan, who was also a close confidant of Mr Karunanidhi, and paid their homage.
Actors Rajinikanth and Satyaraj, Dravidar Kazhagam President K Veeramani, film lyricist Vairamuthu also paid their homage to the body of Anbazhagan, who served as the General Secretary till his death for 43 years ever since he was appointed to the post in 1977.
