Nearly 100 people participated in a torch lit rally in Merces on the eve of Goa’s Liberation day as a mark of respect to the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives to give Goans freedom from the Portuguese rule.
Later speaking to the participants, former North Goa Zilla Panchayat chairperson Anil Hoble said that as Goa enters the 50th year of its liberation, it was time to launch a movement to free Goa from the Congress rule.
He referred to the various wrong policies of the Congress government both at the Centre and in Goa that has burdened the common men and made life difficult for them.
Anil Hoble said that the Congress only believed in slogans and while claiming to be working for the aam admi was actually crippling him and urged those gathered to bring in a change at the next elections by electing a BJP government in Goa which had done wonders during its brief stint with Manohar Parrikar as the chief minister.
Advocate Prashant Vengurlekar who also spoke said that it was unfortunate that the freedom obtained by the freedom fighters was handed over to corrupt Congress MLAs and ministers who are only looting the common man.
He also argued that to free Goa and Goans from corruption, there was a crying need to bring about a change in the government.
Various others like Charles D’Souza, Hemant Golatkar and former Merces Sarpanch Jyoti Palekar spoke on similar lines.
Later a similar rally was organized at Chimbel where nearly 400 local people participated.
