Two girls who were being dragged by the strong undercurrents at Calangute on Tuesday were saved by life guards of Drishti Special Response Services Private Ltd.
The two girls – Maya and Reena – were part of a group that came to Calangute and they went for a swim in the sea when they were dragged by the undercurrents. The two girls unknowingly were swimming in the zone demarcated for water sports which is deeper than the one marked for swimming.
According to Drishti officials, the lifeguards at Calangute had warned the girls not to swim in that zone and though they initially moved away, after the lifeguards left that spot to patrol the beach, the girls ventured back into the dangerous zone.
While one of the girls is admitted to Goa Medical College, the other was discharged after first aid at the Candolim Health Centre.
